Working in local neighbourhoods

VAL supports a key means by which local people get a say and get involved in their local neighbourhood. We support small groups in local areas, spread good practice, assist with income generation, link local areas to the Leicester Partnership, and help communities link to the City Council's Ward Committees. Our aims are to improve the lives of people in local communities, making public services more responsive and increasing social capital/community resilience.

Ways in which VAL works with neighbourhoods

  • Supporting new neighbourhood groups to set up and supporting the development of existing neighbourhood groups
  • Enabling local people to identify issues in their area - and suggest solutions
  • Developing neighbourhood level action plans
  • Developing key community anchor organisations across the City
  • Supporting local people in persuading local service providers to improve/change their service delivery.
  • Strengthening local citizenship and improving engagement with the political process.
  • For support in developing your neighbourhood contact - Kevin Allen Khimani.
