This page is about the VAL work teams, what they do and who is involved.

VAL is divided into three directorates:

• Policy
• Community Action
• Trading

All three directorates are supported by a central team.

Community Action Directorate (Service Director: Jim McCallum)

This directorate leads VAL's work in volunteering, small group support, and neighbourhoods

Volunteering Team (Manager: Michelle Skinner)

This team provides information and support to individuals who wish to volunteer and support to groups who are involving volunteers to promote best practice. It runs the Volunteer Centre for Leicester, and has a specific project aimed at supporting young people's volunteering. (see the I want to Volunteer pages)

Active Communities Team (ACT) (Manager: Kevin Allen Khimani)

This team of staff specialise in delivering support for community and voluntary groups in the city, and in developing the involvement of the community in their neighbourhoods. (see Help for Groups pages)

VALUES Team (Manager: Aaron Keen)

The VALUES project supports people with a Learning Disability into volunteering or employment. (see Learning Disability pages)

Special Olympics post (Officer: Lyn Senior)

This post will promote and co-ordinate volunteering for the 2009 Special Olympics hosted by Leicester.

Policy Directorate (Service Director: Carol Varley)

This directorate leads on engaging community and voluntary groups with public policy, and supporting local groups in delivering public services.

Children's and Young People's Team (Manager: Patsy Richards)

This team covers the Children's and Young People's policy area and supports the involvement of local groups, and parents, in policy discussions. (see Children's Services pages) The team has specialist support to assist groups who wish to deliver public services in this area. (see Delivering public services pages)

The team also includes the Parent Partnership Scheme for Leicester - providing information and support to parents of children with Special Educational Needs. (see Help for my child pages)

Adults Team (Manager: Al Khalifa)

This team covers the Health and Well Being policy area and the Economic Development policy area. It supports the involvement of local groups in policy discussions and delivery of public services in these areas (see Adults Services and Economic Development pages)

Organisational Development Team (Manager: vacant)

The team provides specialist support to assist groups who wish to deliver public services including successfully tendering for public contracts. (see Delivering public services pages)

Children's Workforce Development (Officer: Wendy Brickett)

This post is supporting the development of the children's services workforce in the voluntary and private sectors across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Trading Directorate (Service Director: Alex Grealis)

This directorate runs VAL's trading activity in the following service delivery areas:

• ICT consultancy and technical support
• Print and Multimedia
• Website design
• Training courses
• Meeting and Conference rooms
• Office Accommodation

This team manages VAL providing Financial Management, Payroll, HR and accommodation for the organisation.
