Setting up a new group

If you are thinking of setting up a voluntary and community group that directly benefits Leicester City residents, then we can offer you a FREE service. Our team of Development Officers at VAL can advise you on how to set up, develop and grow your new group through our one to one mentoring service. We have simple, user-friendly resources such as a New Groups Pack that will take you through each of the steps to help you to achieve success.

We also offer support and guidance on the wide range of issues that you may face when setting up, and we have a first class Resource Centre of guidelines, toolkits, and fact sheets that are suitable for all levels and all needs on the following topics:

  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Funding
  • Good governance
  • Legal structures and governance
  • Employing staff for the first time
  • Becoming a registered charity
  • Opening Bank Accounts
  • Managing Money
  • The roles and responsibilities of the Chair and Treasurer
  • Running an effective meeting
  • Getting your group known
