In 2001, the Government identified 88 areas as the most deprived in the country and developed the 'National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal', which set out to ensure that 'within 10-20 years no-one shalll be disadvantaged by where they live'. In order to work towards this and 'close the gaps' between deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of the country, the government set up Local Strategic Partnerships in each of the 88 areas.
Local Strategic Partnerships involve Public Sector, Voluntary Sector and Business Sector organisations working together to develop a coordinated approach to tackling deprivation and improving quality of life in deprived communities. In Leicester, the Local Strategic Partnership is the Leicester Partnership.
These 4 theme groups are responsible for overseeing the delivery of Leicester's Local Area Agreement, which sets out the city's priorities for Neighbourhood renewal.
