The Department of Health launched on the 3rd June the above strategy for consultation. The aim is to promote the role of volunteering in the context of health and social care reform, and inform improvements to support volunteering across the healthand social care system.
The consultation workshop is being held on Tuesday 29th July 2008 at NSPCC Training Centre from 10am - 1pm.

Voluntary Action Leicester is to host the Leicester Volunteering
Convention on Wednesday 9th July from 3.30pm – 8pm. The event will include
a range of workshops and a talk by specialist speaker Simon Richards on “The
National Profile of Volunteering”.

The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games will be hosted by Leicester from 25th-31st July 2009.

Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1-7 June every year and celebrates the contribution of the country’s 20 million volunteers to their communities.

An exciting new volunteering project called ‘Breaking down Barriers’. There are 100s of Volunteering opportunities already available, or we can try and help find one that could be just right for you within your own community. Volunteering is great stepping stone, especially if your thinking of getting back into employment would like more training or have spare time on your hands.
A group of volunteers are taken out for the day (usually 10am - 3pm) on the GreenLife Boat by Leicester City Council's Riverside Rangers to clean up Leicester's Riverways.
Volunteers work to improve the environment of the riverside including tasks such as picking out litter and clearing up floating pennywart weed. Activities are adapted to the ability of the group. This activity is suitable for children accompanied by adults.
Booking is essential as places are limited.
